Description from the seller
The backstory. The MTB was bought brand new in 1986 at a specialty shop. (See sticker). The payment was still in Deutsche Mark, the postal code was still four digits… the MTB even has the rare frame number and another manufacturer number. So the bike was purchased brand new in the 1980s. Then the customer rode home from the bike shop, parked the bike in the garage, and waited for almost 40 years… !!!!! It was basically a brand-new MTB. A brand-new ORIGINAL MTB in the garage, a barn find. Okay, the tires were flat. The brakes and gear shift were stiff, etc. In days of work in my bicycle atelier I oiled everything, pumped up the tires, inspected everything, etc. The MTB is now as top as the first day after 40 !!! years. The tires are the original without cracks or damage. The brakes, everything original. The MTB as I acquired it hung on a garage wall in Leverkusen near Cologne… as a former professional cyclist I’m selling this original MTB in truly top condition as a used bike with small scratches or a bit of original dirt. But everything is original and works perfectly. Chain. Gears. Brakes in top condition. Leather saddle without cracks after 40 years!!! The shift lever on the handlebar you press down with your thumb or pull up. It’s a very simple system and back then, as today, a world sensation. The weight is genuinely light. Saddle bolts, handlebar all cleaned, oiled, lubricated. Essentially a piece of sport history. If it were a car, it would be something for a motorsport museum. I even wanted to take it to Magdeburg for Täve Schur’s birthday, to the Peace Ride Museum. The railway is already striking again; politics is only about cars, 600 HP Mercedes for ALL politicians in the Reichstag. Bicycles count in Germany as garbage, as waste. Additionally, the car rental Star Car is bankrupt. I’m desperate and disappointed. Trying to achieve something meaningful with CataWiki on the way. Thanks, CataWiki.P.S. The MTB can be inspected and test-ridden near Ikea Köln, Butzweiler Hof."
