Artist biography
A former tagger in the 1990s, Enigme09 discovers photomontage in 2009. The painter Jacques Monory will reinforce him in the path he has chosen by suggesting a poetic approach to his art.
Their compositions combine elements drawn from the world of advertising or popular culture with others belonging to the corpus of art history. Their mix is sharp, explosive, surprising, unsettling, but also invites reflection on the status of images and on a possible hierarchy of values between them.
The artist manages to give meaning to familiar signs, emptied of any content due to their overwhelming presence. But, of course, this meaning is, most often, far from their original signified. Enigme09 sums up his artistic credo in a succinct formula: “to give voice to the images to open our eyes.”
