VANTA, Cryo, an original oil painting on canvas (170 × 140 cm) by the Austrian contemporary artist, hand signed, created in 2020+, sold direct from the artist.
Description from the seller
“Cryo” (2025)
Oil on canvas
170 x 140 cm
Deep vivid blue oil paint covers this canvas uniformly before VANTA begins the process of strategic removal. Using various tools and techniques, the artist has carved away paint to reveal intricate patterns that wind across the blue field. These lighter passages create abstract forms that suggest crystalline structures, frozen patterns, or networks of veins spreading through the saturated color.
Each removal technique leaves its own mark - some create sharp edges, others softer transitions, building up a vocabulary of textures across the surface. Represented by S-Gallery and featured on Catawiki, this piece shows how paint removal can generate complexity rather than simply reducing what’s there. The revealed areas interact with the remaining deep blue, creating spatial relationships that shift between figure and ground.
The vertical format suits these spreading patterns, giving them room to branch and interconnect as they move across the canvas. Light catches the worked surface differently than it would a uniform paint application, adding another layer of visual interest that changes with viewing conditions and angles.
Shipping:
The work is delivered without a frame (professional packaging, rolled in a tube). it can easily be restretched by a professional or on your own, this is also cheaper then the otherwise increased cost of shipping when sending paintings of this size stretched
The measurements indicated are those of the painting stretched and mounted on a frame (The actual
measurements of the canvas are larger to allow it to be mounted on a frame 2-4cm thick.
