Description from the seller
Item Description
This striking ceramic vase showcases the dynamic beauty of traditional Japanese pottery techniques. The piece features a dramatic contrast between rich brown stoneware body and flowing white glaze that cascades down the form like melting snow or flowing cream. The glaze application creates an organic, natural pattern that makes each piece truly unique.
The vase has a distinctive two-tiered cylindrical form with a wide mouth opening at the top, making it suitable for displaying ikebana arrangements or standing as a sculptural decorative object. The white glaze has been applied with masterful control, allowing it to flow and pool naturally over the brown clay body, creating areas where both colors interact to produce subtle variations and texture.
The exposed stoneware reveals the natural warm brown color of the clay, which provides a beautiful earthy foundation for the glossy white glaze. Small areas where the glaze has pooled and crystallized add additional visual interest and depth to the piece. This type of glaze technique demonstrates the Japanese aesthetic principle of embracing natural, unpredictable beauty in ceramic art.
