Description from the seller

Rare apothecary's albarello - Italy, 18th century - Majolica.
Important apothecary jar (albarello) in glazed earthenware, decorated in blue and ochre on a creamy white background. A scene depicting a peasant or pharmacist above a wide frieze bearing the inscription “FS di LAVANDA”, or “Fiori secchi di lavanda” (dried lavender flowers).
Magnificent condition for a piece from this era, and accompanied by its lid, which is very rare!!!

Albarelli, directly inspired by Persian models and imported by Italian and Spanish potters from the Middle Ages, were meant to contain drugs, powders, and medicinal preparations in apothecaries’ shops.
