The author - Claude Pouillet (1790-1868)
Claude Servais Mathias Pouillet: Major French physicist, member of the French Academy of Sciences, professor at the Sorbonne and the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers.
Inventor of the pyrheliometer and pioneer in the measurement of the solar constant. His treatise was the main pedagogical reference in France from 1827 to the 1860s.
Status: 'Work authorized by the Council of Public Instruction'.
