Description from the seller
This is a high-quality natural Amakusa whetstone (天草砥石) sourced from Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, an area historically renowned for producing durable and reliable natural sharpening stones.
Amakusa stones are traditionally used as medium-grit whetstones, ideal for initial edge refinement and general sharpening. With an estimated grit equivalent of #800 and above, this stone is well suited for sharpening Japanese knives, Western knives, planes, chisels, and other carpentry tools.
This particular example was carefully selected from a large number of finished stones for its quality and usability. The stone has a substantial size and weight, providing excellent stability during sharpening. As with all natural stones, natural color variations, patterns, and inclusions are present and should be regarded as characteristics rather than flaws.
A reliable and authentic tool for both professional craftsmen and sharpening enthusiasts, as well as a fine example of traditional Japanese sharpening culture.
Immediate purchase is possible.
