Johannes (Joop) Petrus Molenaar, born in Rotterdam, April 29, 1914 – died 1990 in Rotterdam.

J.P. Molenaar came from a family of sailors. He himself also worked on merchant ships before he chose the painting profession in 1930. Much of his work depicts seafaring and the port of Rotterdam. He produced many of his paintings on commission from a Rotterdam shipowner.
He also painted other bodies of water and hydraulic works, including the Zuiderzee Works, the Lauwers Sea, and the port of Antwerp.

He exhibited once with the great seascape painter J.H. van Mastenbroek and the Hague painter Evert Moll. His large paintings are always beautifully executed. Several paintings by J.P. Molenaar have been included in the Amsterdam Maritime Museum.
He was a member of the Rotterdam Art Foundation.

The dimensions of the displayed painting include the frame. The painting is carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
