Original 2025 mixed-media painting by Domenico Canino, titled sleeper's consciusness, on canvas (80 × 60 cm), Italy, signed by hand on the front and frame, sold directly by the artist, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Synthetic enamel painting on canvas.
Canino investigates the pictorial space in search of figures that tear open the canvas and transcend the dichotomy between life and death, sleep and wakefulness, and light and shadow.
A series of blurred, ethereal figures that dissolve into the void to reassemble into something else.
...the figures of Canino seem to disappear into nothingness; they liquefy and flow in a vital stream that gives life to numerous other forms...
That which exhausts itself like hemorrhage, that strips down to the aspect that assumes its own nudity, exposing the very exposure itself—vulnerability and pain, in DC's painting, seem to emerge as states of nature. The use of synthetic enamels as a medium and the trace resulting from their mixture give dimension and energy to the figuration of bodies, which in Canino's stroke appear in a vision that is as if skinned. Torn apart and yet regenerated. This is also due to the particular reddish hue that the artist has experimented with and uses—an oxidized blood tone—and the glossiness achieved from the enamel that recalls the vivid view of muscle fibers that make up a body. A beneath-the-skin gaze, beyond the reassuring and homogeneous surface of identity, reaching into the raw flesh of otherness. 'One must dispel the idea that knowing is equivalent to seizing the being until reducing it to nothing, thus neutralizing its constitutive otherness. [...] it is only an attempt to reduce the distance between oneself and the Other to ensure the self-sufficiency of the Same, its identification.'
...layer after layer (diversity), the painter comes to compose a single body, mass, or subject.

Domenico Canino
Born in Catanzaro in 1986 and raised in Albi among the mountains of Sila Piccola, where he began his early artistic studies by immediately incorporating the aesthetics of nature as the subject of his works.
He has lived and worked in Rome, where he earned a degree in Set Design from the Academy of Fine Arts with a project on auditory perception titled 'Study on the vibration of the Iron'.
He has collaborated with various theater companies, taking care of the scenographies and visual installations of performances, blending artistic language with scenic techniques.
Since 2009, he has continued his research in the field of Sound Art and video imagery, without abandoning the painterly sign. His works are of a projective nature. Through action, painting, and electronic arts, he develops artistic experiments and research driven by the concept of 'existence' and its sacredness.
The art of Canino is a primordial call to the uniqueness of Life, understood as an organic whole but never harmonious, contrasted with the conscious will of contemporary civilization. It is the cult of the unconscious, of primal thought, as a cyclical return to the origin of pure existence. Canino's antiheroes break the cages of time and space imposed by mechanized society. They tear through the canvas to transcend the dichotomy between life and death, sleep and wakefulness, light and shadow.
The art/life binomial, time, nature, space, and animals are recurring themes also present in his visual/sound compositions, often developed in natural spaces and then installed in exhibition spaces, such as 'My Sign and the Sign of the Earth,' a work developed over two years (2011-2012), or 'Pieces from the Sacred Tree,' 'Blue Line in the Space,' 'Ten Different Moments' (2010). Also in 2010, he continued working with multimedia language and techniques to create the video works 'Internal Videoportrait' and 'Here,' as well as the surrealistic photo series 'Pages from Life Book.'
Since 2011, he has been working with synthetic enamels on very long painting series such as 'Space, Energy, Masses,' 'The Past, the Present, and the Future of the Human Condition,' 'Hypernature,' and 'You, Me and the Others.' With the latter, he aims to define and establish his painting style and visual language.
Currently living and working in Bologna, he collaborates with the Giambattista Vico Institute, serving as a teacher of Figurative Arts, Multimedia Design, and Art History.
