Description from the seller
Rare pair of pierced/ornate dishes in French faience – Rocaille style – Late 19th / early 20th century
Very beautiful pair of perforated plates with handles, in polychrome French faience, richly decorated in the Rocaille Louis XV style.
These pieces have a dynamic form, with a scalloped edge and handles in scrolls, entirely pierced and hand-decorated.
The décor combines scrolls, flowers, flowered baskets, and insects, in a vivid and refined palette dominated by blue, yellow, green, and manganese accents.
The style and technique are characteristic of French productions from the late 19th to the early 20th century, inspired by the great faience wares of Rouen and Nevers.
The dishes rest on four small molded feet, which are also decorated.
The reverse side bears a handwritten workshop number, typical of productions from that period.
