A maiko is an apprentice geisha in Japan, especially in Kyoto, a young woman who trains in the traditional arts (dance, music, singing, conversation) to become a professional geisha (geiko).
Characterized by flashy clothing, elaborate hairstyles, and distinctive makeup, they live and study in special houses called okiya, and their appearance—often more colorful and flamboyant than that of geisha—serves to conceal the minor imperfections of apprenticeship.
About the artist:
trained at the Next Art School in Viterbo. after studying with a well-known artist in Viterbo, her five-year training at the Next Art School in Viterbo was a key part of her career, with a 2021 solo exhibition at the Colle del Duomo monumental complex in Viterbo.
People say of her: Ilaria Massera has chosen a hyperrealist, or rather ultra-realistic, style, and not only that: she consistently shows a love of detail and the will to produce clean, precise compositions, capable of conveying a constant sense of deep harmony. Her works have been created with oil techniques, or acrylic, or even watercolor, and they allow us to rediscover and seize moments of beauty.
Solo show at Palazzo Scacciarecci
two impromptu exhibitions in Nepi
Ranked first and third.
Solo exhibition at the Cathedral of Viterbo.
solo exhibition in Bassano Romano
solo exhibition at Carrer Gallery
