Description from the seller
Miguel Flaquer (20th century), contemporary Mallorcan painter
Still life, 1959
Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower left corner.
A carefully balanced still life composition, in which Miguel Flaquer displays a refined mastery of color and light. On an ochre-toned table, everyday objects are arranged — a glass oil bottle, a ceramic vessel with a spoon, a piece of bread, a plate with sardines and olives, and an orange on a cloth — all treated with remarkable pictorial sensitivity.
The work stands out for its sober and silent atmosphere, with a dark background that enhances the volumes and transparencies, especially in glass containers. The brushwork is restrained and precise, with a warm palette that alludes to the tradition of mid-20th-century Mediterranean still life.
Overall good condition, with small, barely noticeable holes in the upper part and in the lower right corner.
