Description from the seller
Alexander Mcqueen AW2007 Runway
Sculptural Turtleneck Knit
A rare runway knit from Alexander McQueen's Autumn/ Winter 2007 collection, a period widely regarded as one of the house's most technically and conceptually advanced eras.
This sculptural turtleneck sweater was designed as an integral under-structure for McQueen's leather and fur runway looks, functioning not merely as a garment but as an architectural base layer that shaped the silhouette. The piece is visible on the runway beneath leather corsetry and fur elements, emphasizing McQueen's obsession with the body as a constructed form rather than a dressed one.
The knit features an intricately engineered rib and cable structure, forming geometric, almost anatomical patterns across the torso and sleeves. The high funnel neck and elongated cuffs create a second-skin effect - a recurring McQueen motif during this period - blurring the line between clothing, armor, and anatomy.
Produced in extremely limited numbers and never intended for commercial mass retail, pieces of this type were primarily made for runway styling and select editorial placements. Surviving examples are scarce, with most remaining in private archives or institutional collections.
This sweater represents McQueen at the height of his technical mastery, when craftsmanship, tailoring, and conceptual storytelling were inseparable. It stands as a museum-grade example of early-2000s British avant-garde fashion and a tangible artifact of McQueen's runway legacy.
