Antique gilded wood frame from France, dating to 1910–1920, with a repeating chevron leaf motif, external 52 cm wide x 42 cm high x 30 cm deep and an internal 40 cm x 30 cm aperture, in good used condition with age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Gilt antique frame with a leaf motif in a zigzag chevron pattern – Late 19th / Early 20th century
Description
Magnificent antique carved wooden frame, gilded with gold leaf (gilding), of fine quality.
The main décor consists of a repetitive motif of stylized leaves arranged in chevrons/zigzag, with a thinner inner frieze and slightly emphasized corners. This type of very linear and rhythmic ornamentation is characteristic of the late 19th century and the very early 20th century (about 1880–1920), a period when 'simplified neoclassical' frames and semi-industrial productions were widespread.
Antique gilding relatively well preserved with a beautiful natural patina, some losses and wear typical of age (small chips, rubbing, traces of handling), no major damage or heavy restoration visible.
The original hanging wire is still present. The back is typical for the period (cardboard or old kraft paper).
Very decorative as is, perfect for a painting, an engraving, an old photograph, or even as a fully fledged decorative wall piece.
Period: Late 19th – early 20th century (around 1880-1920)
Style: Neo-classical / simplified Belle Époque
Condition: Good antique condition – original patina – normal and expected wear.
