Der Antichrist, by Joseph Roth (EXILE-EDITION) is a 1934 first edition published in exile by Verlag Allert de Lange, Amsterdam; a hardback, 248 pages, German original, 23.5 × 16 cm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Joseph Roth's FIRST EDITION - PUBLISHED IN EXILE by Allert de Lange, Amsterdam in 1934.
Joseph Roth (1894–1939) was an Austrian-Jewish novelist and journalist best known for his powerful portrayals of the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
When Hitler came to power in 1933, Joseph Roth being both Jewish and outspokenly anti-Nazi, had to flee from Germany and lived in exile across Europe. His works were among the books publicly burned by the Nazis in 1933.
His life was marked by exile, alcoholism, and a deep sense of cultural loss, culminating in his death at the age of 45 in Paris in 1939 shortly before World War II.
Roth is considered one of the most important Central-European writers of the interwar period.
His work captures the trauma of war, exile, Jewish identity, and the collapse of empires.
His book "The Antichrist" is a passionate, apocalyptic essay written in exile as a reaction to the rise of Nazism and the moral collapse of Europe.
Original full-cloth binding. Gilt stripe with the book title on the front cover is a bit rubbed, otherwise a very good copy.
(shipping via registered airmail, arrival time 10 - 30 working days, depending on destination, to Italy we ship with EMS courier).
