Wooden moulded frame with leaf-gold gilding in the Neo-Louis XVI style from the Napoleonic III era (1850–1900); external 60 × 50 cm, internal 53 × 44 cm, origin France, in good condition with age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Antique carved wooden frame gilded with gold leaf – Neo-Louis XVI style – Napoléon III era, second half of the nineteenth century
Elegant and restrained rectangular moulded wooden frame, entirely covered with old gold leaf gilding, with a warm and natural patina.
This classic model features a simple and refined cassette profile, typical of the Neo-Classical revival of the Second Empire:
Large exterior flat panel with stacked flat moldings.
Fine grooves and linear fillets for a subtle depth effect
Inner border accented by elegant hollow mouldings.
A symmetrical ensemble, free of ornamental excess, evoking the refined Louis XVI style reinterpreted in the 19th century.
The old gilding shows a beautiful wear from age (slight cracks, matte golden patina in places, small touch-ups and localized losses), which gives it an authentic antique charm without compromising its stability.
Condition: generally good for its age – gilding patinated with normal wear, solid structure, no major damage or deformation.
Perfect for framing an oil painting, an engraving, a watercolor or a pastel from the 19th century, a sober portrait, or as a minimalist and chic mirror frame for timeless decor.
A discreet, elegant, and good-quality frame, highly appreciated by enthusiasts of classical 19th-century French framing.
