Antoine Denoual - L'homme bleu

Born in 1996, Antoine Denoual lives and works in Nantes. In 2022, after studying applied arts and then photography, he graduated from the National School of Photography (ENSP). At the ENSP, he deepens his research around the body, identity, as well as the possibilities offered by the physical properties of light: "Whether it is phenomena of reflection, diffraction, optical illusions or light games and stage effects, these visual manifestations often allow me to give a plastic form to my works and reflections," he affirms. The work of Antoine Denoual inscribes the body in multiple narratives and scales that invite the viewer to perceive it differently. Tinted with a bittersweet aesthetic, his photographs plunge us into dreamlike spaces, oscillating between romantic references and a taste for "ultrapop." His installations, resembling labyrinths, offer a total sensory space. The viewer becomes an actor, at the very heart of the activation of the work — a process that echoes Robert Morris's concept of the "perceptive body." Antoine Denoual has exhibited in France, notably in Arles (Galerie Regala, WIP 2022), in Nantes (Kunst Haus, Les Laboratoires Vivants, Galerie du Grand Huit, Ateliers Magellan), in Paris (La Villette, Le Hasard Ludique), and in Marseille (FRAC SUD, La Fabulerie). He has also completed commissions for Jacquemus, Hermès Saint-Louis, and the Nantes Biennial of Visual Arts. His work has been published in Fisheye Magazine and Libération.
