Wooden frame from the 20th century, intricately carved and partly black-lacquered with gilt bronze ornaments, measuring 50 cm high by 42 cm wide, in good condition with light age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Exceptional antique frame in carved, gilded, and black-lacquered wood – Regency/Transition style – Napoleonic III era, circa 1860–1880
Magnificent and rare display frame in molded wood, carved and partially black-lacquered, enriched with rich motifs in finely chased gilded bronze that are applied.
This sumptuous model, directly inspired by Regency style and by the Louis XIV–Louis XV transition, presents a particularly refined decor:
Matte black lacquered background (original smoked black)
Superb scrolls, arabesques, shells, palmettes, and volutes in gilded bronze, finely chased.
Beaded interior frieze and gilded border trim.
Corners and centers ornamented with cartouches and highly elaborate fleurons.
The gilding and the black lacquer exhibit an exceptional patina, with light signs of wear that bring out the relief of the bronzes and give the whole an extraordinary presence. No major losses, no damage – one of the finest examples to be found in this category.
Condition: very good condition – stable black lacquer, gilded bronzes well fixed, a few micro-scratches and typical signs of age, but overall superb.
Intended for an important work: a Barbizon painting, a portrait, a genre scene, a fireplace mantel mirror, or simply as a very chic decorative object.
A frame of this quality and style is relatively rare on the market — a perfect piece for a discerning collector or decorator.
