Description from the seller
Main features of the work
Salvatore Provino (1943) • "Marina" • Oil on canvas • 50×40 cm (with frame 70×60 cm) • Artist's certificate of authenticity on photograph • Provenance: Italian private collection
An artwork belonging to the Italian Abstract Art movement of the second half of the 20th century.
This extraordinary composition transforms a marine landscape into a powerful and contemporary image, built with fractured planes, decisive marks, and stark chromatic contrasts. The work has evident painterly depth: the construction of space recalls the phase in which Provino, after the conversation with philosopher Lucio Lombardo Radice, deepens the relationship between painting and non-Euclidean geometry; space is not fixed, but seems to dilate and curve, and the intense, layered color becomes an active part of this exploration. The result is an immediate and coherent vision of his abstract research.
An artwork datable to the 1970s–1980s, in relation to the phase of full development of Provino's abstract language and to his reflection on the pictorial space.
The artwork will be delivered with the artist’s certificate of authenticity on the photograph.
Salvatore Provino (Bagheria, 1943) trains in Rome, attending Renato Guttuso's studio, from which he absorbs the structural rigor of painting, while soon embarking on an autonomous path beyond figuration.
From the 1970s onward, he develops an abstract painting focused on the construction of space and on the relationship between sign, color, and structure, placing himself in the lineage of the great Italian painting research of the second half of the twentieth century, in a cultural climate marked by the experiences of Lucio Fontana, Piero Dorazio, and Afro Basaldella.
Her work includes high-profile teaching engagements and major international exhibition accolades, including her being the first Western artist to be featured at the National Museum of Chinese History in Beijing.
The buyer will receive the artwork in carefully packed and sturdy packaging. Very fast shipping. Free pickup available in Monza/Milan.
