Jaume Plensa is a sculptor and visual artist internationally renowned for his monumental works that combine art, poetry and spirituality. He studied at the Llotja School of Fine Arts and the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, developing an early interest in public space and the impact of art on everyday life.
His career took off in the 1980s, when he began experimenting with unconventional materials such as iron, resin, glass, alabaster, fibre optics and light, integrating a dialogue between the human body, nature and language into his pieces.
