Description from the seller
Coffee service consisting of:
1 coffee maker, height 21.5 x diameter 13.5
1 sugar shaker, height 10.5 x 11.3 x 10 cm
1 milk jug, height 10.7 cm x diameter 8 cm
12 coffee cups, height 3.7 cm x diameter 8 cm
12 saucers, 11.8 cm in diameter.
Rare cream-colored glazed ceramic set with stylized floral profiles and decorations, thin lines in sepia and silver. They feature glossy dark handles and matching lids with a small knob. They are supported by three shaped feet. The objects have an antique design, from the first half of the twentieth century. Mark under the base: Schwarzenhammer Bavaria. Good condition, with slight signs of paint wear on the pieces. The shield-shaped mark with vertical stripes, unfilled stars and the single crown used between about 1923 and 1945, with "Schwarzenhammer" above "Bavaria".
This factory was founded in 1905 by Christoph Schumann, brother of Carl Schumann I (see Porzellanfabrik Carl Schumann) and by his father-in-law Karl August Schreider, a wealthy landowner. In 1913 it already employed 150 people and specialized in everyday items, including many pieces of reticulated porcelain decorated in the Zwiebelmuster ("Blue Onion") and Strohblume ("Strawflower") styles. The company slowly expanded to about 400 employees by 1937. Little is known about this company, which failed in 1984 and, after its closure in 1986, left behind an industrial ruin with many contaminated sites that had to be cleaned up by regional authorities with state funding between 1998 and 2005.
