Original pair of antique lace-up boxing gloves from the first half of the 20th century (ca. 1920s–1940s), 8 oz, with horsehair/cotton/capok filling and a 'CAPTAIN' cuff inscription, in original condition with patina.
Description from the seller
Rare pair of antique boxing gloves “CAPTAIN” – circa 1920–1940 – 8 oz – horsehair/wadding filling
Offered is an original pair of antique lace-up boxing gloves from the first half of the 20th century, presumably the 1920s to the 1940s.
The gloves are made of thick, high-quality cowhide with a beautiful, even patina from aging. The classic lacing, as well as the soft, fluffy filling (horsehair/cotton/kapok), are typical features of the early boxing-glove generation, long before the introduction of modern foam padding.
Both gloves are stamped inside with '8 oz'. On the cuff, the inscription 'CAPTAIN' is present, most likely as a brand or model name. The compact form and light weight suggest competition or early sparring gloves.
state
