Description from the seller

Item Description

This is a traditional Japanese Raku ware red tea bowl (Aka-Raku chawan), bearing a stamped “Raku” mark on the base and accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako).

Raku ware was first established in the late 16th century by Chōjirō, under the guidance of tea master Sen no Rikyū, and has since been closely associated with the Japanese tea ceremony. Aka-Raku tea bowls are especially valued for their warm reddish tones, soft forms, and intimate hand-held presence.

This tea bowl was fired at a relatively low temperature, resulting in a distinctive glaze texture with subtle crackle patterns and natural kiln variations. The softly rounded shape fits comfortably in the hands, making it suitable for practical tea ceremony use as well as for appreciation as a traditional tea utensil.

The accompanying wooden box is inscribed with “茶碗” (Tea Bowl) and the phrase “未来無為,” indicating a philosophical or poetic naming often associated with tea utensils.
