Description from the seller
Oval ceramic platter – Robert Picault – Vallauris – 1950s
Superb oval dish in enameled ceramic, signed RP on the reverse, a work by the famous ceramist Robert Picault, a major figure in the revival of artistic ceramics in Vallauris in the 1950s.
This plate features a stylized floral design typical of Picault:
Three brown flowers with turquoise centers, bursting from hand-painted, flowing foliage, in a magnificent Mediterranean blue-green.
The marli is punctuated by a graphic frieze alternating turquoise bands and copper-brown, bringing a perfect balance between modernity and artisanal tradition.
The piece is enhanced by an elegant oval shape and a glossy enamel that catches the light with a soft glow.
Robert Picault (1919–2000) was one of the founders of the Capron–Picault workshop, alongside Roger Capron and Jean Derval.
Their work stands out for stylized naturalistic motifs, a luminous palette, and a highly personal sense of composition.
Very good overall condition.
Please note a few very discreet micro-chips along the edge (visible in the photos), with no impact on aesthetics or on the strength of the piece.
No restoration, no cracks.
This is a rare piece, ideal for both a ceramic collector and an aficionado of upscale vintage décor.
