Description from the seller

Samalio Pardulus – Otto Julius Bierbaum / Alfred Kubin (illustrations)

München [Munich] and Leipzig: Georg Müller, 1911. 44 pages. 24.5cm x 19cm. Dark blue half leather binding with gilt-framed marbled boards, gilt decorated and lettered spine with 5 raised bands, gilt top edge, and marbled endpapers. First illustration edition of this gothic horror novella, first published in 1908, limited to 600 copies. Comes with 20 beautiful full-page collotype plates based on pen-and-ink drawings by Alfred Kubin. The elaborate binding was done after a design by Paul Renner.
Some rubbing, bumping, and wear to the boards and spine. The leather of the spine is worn off slightly in some spots. Pencil markings on the front flyleaf and on the back free endpaper. The marbled endpapers in the back are slightly damaged at the bottom (see photos). Browning and spotting throughout as usual. The text is bright, the illustrations are vibrant, and the binding is solid. Overall, a handsome copy in very good condition.
