Description from the seller
Oil on canvas depicting a young boy and signed
Serge Creuz (Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, 1924 – Brussels, 1997)
Versatile artist. He studied at the Brussels Academy (1940-1941, H. Van Haelen) and at La Cambre (J. Minne), and he undertook internships in Paris (F. Labisse, J.L. Barrault and C. Bérard). His first solo exhibition dates from 1944 (Brussels, Galerie Manteau). With his friends P. Alechinsky and R. Cossé, he exhibited at the Lou Cosyn gallery in 1947. Admitted to the "Jeune Peinture Belge" of 1945, he took part in three group exhibitions in 1947. He took part in "Apport 48." His early works betray the influence of post-C Cubism in the arrangement of forms and that of the Fauves in the treatment of color. Subsequently, he reveals himself in works which, executed swiftly, harbor all the fantasy and humor of their author.
The artwork is dated and signed at the bottom right or left.
