The work, also known as The Metamorphoses, narrates the perils and adventures of the young Lucius, first transformed into a donkey by means of a magical filter and then restored to humanity thanks to the intervention of the goddess Isis. The text constitutes one of the most significant examples of ancient picaresque novel, in which comic, magical, and religious elements mingle. The novel contains the famous fable Cupid and Psyche.
