Description from the seller
Antique sterling silver milk jug – Georgian period – London, 1797
Elegant Georgian-era milk jug, made in solid sterling silver 925 of English manufacture, dating from the late eighteenth century.
The body of the piece is made of 925 silver, while the base is copper, a technical solution used at the time to ensure greater structural stability. The cream jug features the classic neoclassical shape on a foot, with a shaped spout and a ribbon handle, typical of English production from the George III period.
The body is adorned with refined, original decorative engravings, executed by hand, reflecting the sober and elegant taste of English neoclassicism.
On the base are the official English hallmarks, characteristic of British sterling silver, which allow precise identification:
• Silver fineness: sterling 925
• Production city: London
• Year of creation: 1797
One of the peculiarities of English silver is precisely the ability to trace the year and city of production with accuracy, making this object particularly interesting from a historical and collectors’ standpoint.
