Italian school (XVII) - Lucrezia Romana

Refined antique painting, oil on a small panel, depicting Lucrezia, a heroine symbol of chastity and honor. The work, dating from the early 17th century, is a significant example of Baroque painting from the Central Italian area (Emilian or Tuscan region).

Despite the absence of a signature, the quality of the face, marked by an expression of intense spiritual ecstasy and resignation, and the rendering of details (such as the transparent veil and the intricately worked hilt of the dagger) suggest the hand of a skilled workshop painter or a pupil of a master of the era. The style recalls the sensibility of the great masters of the seventeenth century who treated the theme of the Heroines, blending historical drama with ideal beauty.

Premium Frame
The painting is housed in a splendid period box frame (17th century) made of gilded wood with burin-engraved decorations. The frame is a valuable antique piece, independently valued at between €800 and €1,000. The burin engraving technique and the original gold patina make it a perfect complement of great historical value for the work.
The artwork is in good overall condition, consistent with its 400 years of history. It presents an intact antique charm, with natural craquelé and slight signs of aging on the painted surface and on the gilding of the frame.
