AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Eugène Ferdinand Parisy (Acy-en-Multien 1849 - Paris 1916)

River landscape with a bridge

Oil on wood

signed at the bottom right

circa 27.0 x 39.0 cm

Condition: very good

Original ornate frame (stucco on wood) from the 19th century.
(partially damaged. with repair spots/retouches)

Dimensions including frame: approx. 57.0 x 68.0 cm

According to the note on the back, Parisy was a student of Victor Leclaire from 1876 to 1882 (1830 Paris – 1885)
In other sources, Parisy is also mentioned as a pupil of Victor Leclaire (1830–1885), a well-known French painter of flowers and still lifes. When comparing the works of the two artists, this seems very plausible.

The handling of light and the transparency make the painting a very beautiful early example of Impressionist painting. Because of the original frame, the picture is extremely decorative.

The painting was sold in 2011 at the Dobiaschofsky Auction House in Bern, Switzerland for 1,500 CHF. (See back sticker).
