Elegant pair of bookends made entirely of natural onyx (calcareous onyx), in brown and green tones, with a refined geometric composition reminiscent of the Art Deco style.
Period: the first half of the 20th century.
The solid construction and substantial weight make them ideal as bookends, while the presence of the upper cavity also allows them to be used as decorative candle holders, a secondary function but compatible with the design.
Dimensions (approx., per piece)
Height: 17 cm
• Base width: 15–16 cm
• Base depth: 9 cm
Total weight: about 6.7 kg (the pair)
Conditions:
The bookends show signs, a patina of age, and small imperfections, visible in the photographs (especially on the edges and interior), consistent with age and use.
One of the pieces had a crack that was repaired in the past; the intervention is visible in the photo and is currently stable. Overall they are in good conservation condition and are structurally solid.
Note:
A rigid protective cardboard sheet was applied to the bottom, added afterwards, to prevent scratches or damage to the surfaces of the furniture.
