Parterre de fleurs, an oil painting by the Catalan post-impressionist school from Spain, dated 1968, depicting a tranquil urban garden landscape, 40 by 48 cm, in good condition, signed, original edition and sold with frame.
Description from the seller
A painting from the Catalan Post-Impressionist school, dated 1968, depicting an urban garden with flower parterres, arranged in a tree-filled, serene and intimate setting. The composition revolves around a central parterre of flowers, delineated by hedges, which structures the space and guides the eye toward the far end of the path.
The painting is characterized by a thick, visible brushstroke, applied with freedom, and by an expressive use of color, in which intense greens, warm ochers, and reddish and yellow accents predominate. The treatment of light and atmosphere responds to the approaches inherited from Impressionism, reinterpreted from a more personal sensibility and more materially dense, characteristic of Catalan Post-Impressionism from the mid-20th century.
The interest in capturing the atmosphere, the simplification of forms, and the primacy of visual sensation over descriptive detail place the work within the Catalan landscape painting tradition linked to pictorial modernity, with clear references to plein air painting and chromatic experimentation.
Dated 1968, the work constitutes a representative example of the continuity of the post-impressionist language in Catalonia, especially appreciated for its balance between spontaneity, materiality, and chromatic sensitivity.
