Description from the seller

Antique wall fountain plaque in polychrome glazed faience, French-made, 18th century.

The plaque is adorned with a figurative motif inspired by antiquity and myth, depicting draped figures moving through a classical architectural setting, with vegetation and decorative elements. The vertical narrative composition, the color palette (blues, greens, yellows, ochres) and the drawing align with the tradition of French architectural faience from the 17th–18th centuries, in the spirit of productions from Rouen or Nevers.

The contoured shape, enriched with shells and scrolls, as well as the presence of original rectangular openings, confirms its use as a wall fountain element (water passage and architectural integration).
The reverse side bears ancient traces of sealing and use in a damp environment, consistent with this function.

On the back, an old label from Le Garde-Meuble de Bedel, an important Parisian dealer in antique decorative and architectural elements in the 19th century, is present. This label attests to the plate’s entry into Parisian trade, without calling into question its manufacture prior to the 18th century.

State:
Good antique condition considering its age and architectural use. Wear, chips and loss of enamel are visible, mainly on the edges and on the back. No repainting or modern restoration observed. The decoration is clearly legible and expressive.

A rare and authentic object, intended for lovers of French decorative arts, of antique faience, or architectural fountainwork.
