Pair of Japanese bronze vases – Meiji period (1868–1912) – Crane & Pine relief – 15 cm high
Weight 355g

An exquisite pair of Japanese bronze vases from the late Meiji period (c. 1900). These vases are characterized by their detailed, bas-relief-style depictions of classical Japanese natural motifs.
Motifs & Symbolism:
Cranes (Tsuru): In Japan a symbol of good fortune and long life (the legend says they live for 1000 years).
Pine trees (Matsu) & cherry blossoms (Sakura): symbols of steadfastness and the fleeting beauty of nature.
Relief work: The birds and plants are rendered in high relief, giving the vases a beautiful sense of depth and tactile quality. The necks and feet are also adorned with stylized floral ornaments.
Details:
Material: Bronze with a warm, reddish-brown patina.
Origin :Period: Meiji Era (1868–1912).
Markings: On the underside there are hand-engraved marks (see photos), which presumably represent workshop or inventory numbers.
