Up for auction is a sophisticated Balda Baldamatic I, a high-quality 35mm rangefinder camera produced by Balda-Werk Bünde in West Germany during the late 1950s. The Baldamatic was the flagship of Balda's 35mm line, featuring a distinct, curved modern design and advanced automation for its era. This camera is equipped with a coupled selenium light meter (visible on the front top plate) and a bright-line rangefinder for precise focusing. It features the excellent Isco-Göttingen Color-Westanar 2.8/45mm lens set in a high-end Prontor-SVS shutter, offering a full range of speeds. A unique feature of this camera is the film advance lever located on the bottom, which contributes to its clean top-plate aesthetic. Technical Specifications: Camera Type: 35mm Rangefinder Camera. Film Type: 35mm (standard 135 film). Lens: Isco-Göttingen Color-Westanar 45mm f/2.8. Shutter: Prontor-SVS (speeds up to 1/500s plus B). Features: Coupled selenium light meter, integrated rangefinder, bottom-mounted rapid wind lever. Origin: West Germany. Condition Report: Cosmetic: The camera is in good vintage condition with some signs of age. The leatherette is intact but shows minor wear, and there is a small sticker residue/marking on the back door. Optical: The Color-Westanar lens glass is clear; no heavy scratches or fungus are visible. The viewfinder and rangefinder patch are functional. Mechanical: The shutter fires and the bottom-mounted advance lever operates. Note: As with most vintage selenium meters, the accuracy of the light meter cannot be guaranteed. This camera is sold as a collector's item.
