Description from the seller

Beautiful and heavily crafted Westerwald vase of salt-glazed stoneware, executed in the characteristic cobalt blue and gray tones. The vase is exceptionally richly decorated all around with relief bands, floral motifs, and a central mask- or head-motif, a decoration typical of high-quality Westerwald pottery.

The different decorative registers – zigzag bands, leaf motifs and geometric patterns – are sharply modeled and beautifully executed. The vase stands firmly on a round foot and has a slightly flared neck. On both sides there are small attached handles.

The underside is numbered, which points to mass-produced yet artisanal production, as is typical for Westerwald pottery from this period.

• In good condition, appropriate for its age
• Minimal signs of use and aging
• No cracks or restorations
• Glaze and relief decoration well preserved
• Some light wear marks visible in close-ups (see photos)
