A turtle-shell matchbox case from France, dating to about 1850–1900, made of turtle shell (schildpadschild) with an inlaid coloured image on the front, a functioning side latch, a copper strip at the bottom for striking matches, and a thin layer of ivory on the lid and body, measuring 7 cm high by 4 cm wide by 1.4 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of ageing.
