Lovely illustrated copy of Hemingway's work ‘Death in the Afternoon’. The book is illustrated with eighty-one reproductions from photographs describing the Spanish traditions of bullfighting and matadors. Published by Jonathan Cape, London, 1952. Publisher’s original red boards, with gilt lettering to spine.
Book Dimensions: 23 x 15 x 3 cm and Number of Pages: 359
[Some wonderful items of ephemera inside all relating to bullfighting in the 1950s. The front endpaper has some newspaper cuttings and rare photographs of Bullfighting from Madrid in 1953, stuck down. The next two blank pages have a Flyer and tickets for the Plaza des Toros in Madrid in the same year. With two additions to the subsequent pages. From the title page onwards all is clear. Also laid in is a folded poster for a bullfight in Palma, Mallorca in 1956. These items are wonderful to see, fit perfectly with the contents of the book and have some collectable value in themselves].
Condition
Firm and well-bound book. The unpriced and clipped dust wrapper (protected with removable Mylar sleeve) is bright, and colourful, and with slight tears to corners. External covers in nice shape, with light fading to edges. Interior is very good, clean and solidly bound, with bright illustrations (Please see pictures).
