Description from the seller

Two farmyard scenes by painter Joseph Gerardus van Jole (1877-1919).

Joseph Gerardus van Jole was born on 19 March 1877 in the Zeelandic-Flemish Kloosterzande as the eldest son in a family of 15 children. Van Jole left the parental home in 1896 and moved to Middelburg. Five years later he settled in The Hague. There he was inspired by the impressionistic landscape paintings of the Hague School; in his painting style that influence is clearly visible.
His paintings and drawings depict landscapes, seascapes and coastal scenes, stable interiors, and rural life. On 21 February 1919 he died as a result of a fall, in which he sustained a base of skull fracture. Due to his early death, his oeuvre remained very small.
