Description from the seller
Frédéric Barzilay
(1917–2015)
Abstract Composition
Textural mixed media on a rigid support
Signed and dated 1962, bottom right
Dimensions of the artwork: 28 x 25 cm
Dimensions with frame: 41 x 39 cm
An important material abstract work created in 1962 by Frédéric Barzilay, an artist active in the field of Swiss abstract and Informal painting in the postwar period. The composition unfolds over a sober yet vibrant surface, built up through successive layers of painterly matter, with thicknesses, cracks and reliefs that confer on the work a strong plastic presence.
In the center emerges a dense, crackled bluish-gray chromatic mass that dialogues with bright yellow accents and lighter, more diffuse interventions, creating a dynamic balance between gesture, materiality, and color. The language is fully linked to informal exploration, in which the material takes center stage and the painting process is visible and deliberately expressive.
The work is signed "F. Barzilay" and dated "62" in the bottom right corner.
Presented in its original frame with a fabric mat, on the reverse of which is affixed the label of Fabrique de cadres – Galerie d’art Fred Chédel, Genève, a mark of quality framing within Switzerland. On the back there are also handwritten annotations regarding the dimensions of the artwork and of the support.
Condition: good. The surface shows reliefs, cracks and intentional irregularities, consistent with the material technique and with the artist's informal language. Frame with normal signs of aging.
Shipping / Pickup
Careful packaging and tracked shipping. Postal shipping is the most economical option but not the most suitable for works with a tactile/material surface; every effort will be made to ensure adequate protection, without assuming responsibility for any damage due to transport. Insurance is available on request, at the buyer’s expense. Any duties and customs charges are the buyer’s responsibility (delays and potential costs may also apply to shipments within Europe, shipping from Switzerland).
Photographs are an integral part of the description.
Nice auction.
