Description from the seller
Introducing Void 001. Emergence
Void 001. Emergence marks the beginning of Art with Void, a newly developed artistic medium by Tijs Dragtsma.
In this work, the image does not arise through addition, but through removal. No paint. No print. No ink. The form is always present, yet light dramatically amplifies its presence. As illumination shifts, contours deepen, spatial tension increases, and the work reveals its full intensity.
The surface is no longer a passive carrier, but an active field in which absence defines form. Light completes what material no longer does.
From a distance the image appears calm and resolved. Up close, it reveals a subtle interplay of depth, reflection and precision. The work does not change its essence, but continuously strengthens through light, inviting slow and attentive observation.
Void 001. Emergence is the first work ever created within the Art with Void medium and therefore holds a singular position as the starting point of a new artistic direction.
About Art with Void
Art with Void is a self-developed medium in which imagery emerges through the deliberate removal of material. Rather than building an image, Dragtsma creates space. What remains interacts with light and reflection to form the final visual experience.
The works are defined by restraint, precision and sculptural depth. Light functions not as an external condition, but as an integral component of the artwork itself, intensifying form without ever overpowering it.
Each piece is unique and unrepeatable, shaped by process, material behaviour and light.
About the Artist – Tijs Dragtsma
Tijs Dragtsma is a Dutch contemporary artist and founder of TD Fine Art Studio. His practice operates at the intersection of material, absence and light, with a strong focus on developing new artistic languages rather than following existing conventions.
He is widely known for his Art with Nails series, in which hundreds to thousands of steel or brass nails form sculptural portraits that shift with light and perspective. With Art with Void, Dragtsma expands this exploration further, stripping the image down to its most essential condition.
Since beginning his artistic practice in 2024, his works have entered private collections across Europe, Asia and the United States, and have been presented internationally. His work is driven by experimentation, precision and a long-term vision focused on material integrity and physical presence.
All works are conceived and produced in his studio in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
