Description from the seller
Chinese inspired blue and white porcelain dish – Lowestoft circa 1750
Object: Dish
Material: Porcelain
Technique: Underglaze blue
Origin: United Kingdom
Period: 1780-1800
A finely potted blue and white porcelain dish, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue on a white ground. The interior depicts a tranquil river landscape with houses, a pavilion, a bridge, trees and distant scenery, painted in a lively and confident hand. A small boat scene appears to one side, adding depth and narrative to the composition.
The scene is framed by a delicate border of stylised floral swags around the rim. The glaze has a soft, slightly creamy tone typical of mid-18th-century export porcelain, with visible kiln speckling and minor firing imperfections consistent with age.
Dimensions:
– Diameter: 12 cm
– Weight: approx. 204 grams (including mount)
Condition:
In good antique condition. No cracks or restorations observed. Minor surface wear, glaze imperfections and firing marks consistent with age. The wire mount is later.
Provenance:
From the Scott family collection, by descent.
Purchased at a notable UK auction house.
Accompanied by certificate and provenance documentation.
