A cobalt-blue overlay from Val Saint Lambert (blue overlay), a thick layer of blue glass that is hand-scraped away to reveal the clear crystal.
Nicely sharpened on top.
This is typical cut-to-clear work, a technique for which Val Saint Lambert is renowned worldwide.

Hand-polished patterns: the deep, smooth grooves create oval and leaf-like shapes that strongly refract light.

Heavy lead crystal, a sign of quality, a modern-to-mid-20th-century Val Saint Lambert vase.
