Caol Ila 1998 Feis Ile 2013 - 70cl

An intriguing, not-so-easy whisky; you have to like citrus notes, otherwise you won't enjoy it, which I think is quite good.

Aromatic

Somehow dense, creamy, dark chocolate, bitter orange marmalade, biscuits, a hint of smoke swirls around everything, a slightly bittersweet note, a bit like smoky marmalade. The aromas don't exactly jump out at you, rather subtle.

Taste

Wow, again bittersweet, slightly bitter, then a touch of sweetness, light smoke, lemon, chalky, dark, a hint of espresso. The Caol Ila character is very present. The second sip is creamier and more chocolatey before the citrus bombshell hits.

Finish

Sweeter, lighter, vanilla, now it takes on very delicate notes, pleasant, hardly any smoke, a touch of mint.
