Description from the seller
A charming late Victorian / Edwardian student’s brass microscope in its original fitted mahogany carrying case, complete with a drawer of early prepared slides. The lacquered brass body stands on a black enamel horseshoe base, with rack‑and‑pinion coarse focus, fine adjustment and a tilting mirror beneath the stage; the optics still focus and give an image.
Inside the lower slide‑drawer is a selection of glass preparations, several with beautifully penned labels describing human tissues and organs and others, giving a fascinating glimpse into turn‑of‑the‑century medical teaching and pathology. The mahogany case retains its brass handle and fittings and closes securely; it shows repairs and age‑related knocks but remains perfectly serviceable and displays well.
An evocative piece for a medical or scientific collection, steampunk interior or curiosity cabinet – ready to sit on a bookshelf or desk, with the added interest of original slides and a microscope that still works.
