Balinese hand‑carved wooden Garuda figure with rider, polychrome finish, about 80 cm tall, dating from circa 1950–1970, provenance Privécollectie, in reasonable condition with both wings intact.

Large Balinese Garuda figure with rider – hand-carved wood – polychrome – Bali, Indonesia – circa 1950–1970
Imposing and richly detailed image of Garuda, the mythical bird and mount of the god Vishnu.
Completely handcrafted from wood and painted in traditional Balinese colors: red, turquoise, cream, gold, and black.
The image shows excellent carving, with expressive facial features, an open mouth with teeth and tongue, graceful wings, and finely detailed ornaments. The rider on top of Garuda is also highly detailed, with a characteristic Balinese face, headdress, and polychromy.
The large wings are removable, as is customary with older Balinese Garudas. These are inserted into the back of the statue.
