Complete collection of the weekly magazine Le Pierrot, illustrated by Adolphe Willette – Paris, 1888–1889, original edition – Bound in an album, red half-percaline – 40 x 30 cm – 204 pages.
51 issues from July 6, 1888 to September 20, 1889. With the two special issues at the end of the album, handwritten and published two years after the bankruptcy of « Pierrot ».
Condition: Minor signs of aging and wear (1 page with 1 tear), book in good condition.
Le Pierrot was a satirical and literary weekly. It consisted of four black-and-white pages. Each issue was illustrated on the first page with a lithograph by A. Willette and, for some issues, with caricatures on the third page.
The magazine was run by Adolphe Willette (1857-1926), who was also its founder and the principal illustrator. He mainly published political and humorous drawings, as well as literary and poetic texts, often linked to current events. Adolphe Willette, an iconic figure of Montmartre, contributed to other periodicals such as Le Chat noir, Le Courrier français, Le Rire, and L’Assiette au beurre. He is known for his lithographs and for his involvement in the artistic and political life of his era.
