width 22 cm
1615g

Judaica Hanukkah Lamp

A Hanukkah lamp is a nine-branched candelabrum that is lit from left to right; each day one more candle is lit with the help of the shamash—the ninth.
It commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Syrian army.
This is an oil lamp in which a wick is placed in each cup. This Hanukkah lamp in natural bronze features a carved and pierced decoration, with a backplate topped by stylized birds and a design of floral scrolls and arches.
The victorious Maccabees wanted to rededicate the Temple in Jerusalem, but they found only a small vial meant to last just one day, yet it miraculously lasted a week.
The Hanukkah festival, the Festival of Lights, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness.
We have here a nice example of a Moroccan lamp.
