Description from the seller
A good rare matching pair of large 19th Century Staffordshire antique Victorian statues, modelled as English hunting dogs or Greyhounds. Staffordshire Hunting Dogs is genuinely of the period declared with the period of manufacture being ca 1840-1850. These figurines are over 170 years old and have very minor age appropriate signs of age. These are wonderful antique Victorian Staffordshire greyhound statues. Beautiful, quality and classic pieces of English decor. The greyhounds are proudly standing over top of a hand-painted shaped base to look like foliage in green, brown and gold. This will make a gorgeous accent for a dining table, bookshelf, console or mantelpiece. One dog in excellent antique condition, no paint loss, no scratches and one repaired dog at the bottom in the middle to see at the pictures, please examine photos carefully. In my opinion this does not detract and just shows the unique character in each one of these Staffordshire pieces. Measures 30 x 26 x 10 cm. Each statue weights over 2 Kg. A rare and unique set!
Staffordshire has been the center of ceramic production in Great Britain since the early 17th century and its porcelain has reached popularity on the global stage and market. The county has made a historical mark for itself within the pottery industry because of its prolific production. Besides being home to famous ceramic companies such as Spode and Wedgwood, Staffordshire is also known for their charming figurines which comes in various sorts and types, of which the favorite are the “Staffordshire dogs”.
