Limited and numbered illustrated edition of this fairy tale, also known as “The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. This being No. 72 of 250 copies, signed by the illustrator, printed on premium Van Gelder handmade paper, and set in large Unger-Fraktur type at the W. Drugulin press (Leipzig). Beautifully illustrated with a colour vignette and 12 colour plates by Gustave Wolf.
Some rubbing, bumping, wear, and slight soiling to the boards and spine. Pen inscription on the front free endpaper and pencil markings on the back pastedown endpaper. Very little browning and spotting throughout. The text is clear, the paper is crisp, the illustrations are vibrant, and the binding is solid. Overall, a handsome copy in very good condition.
